Supervising children and keeping track of them through out the day is an extremely important part of a child care providers job. It is necessary to use sight and sound supervision at all times. It helps to plan ahead and be ready and prepared for different situations that occur in child care. How will you handle the following situations to know what children you are responsible for at all times.
- What process for the parents do you have in place a drop off and pick up times.
- What is your plan to get all of the children outside during a fire drill? Where will you meet with others from the center outside?
- What is your plan you use when taking a field trip to assure that a child does not get lost or left on the bus etc.?
- What is your plan for keeping track of the children when teachers change rooms or combine with other classes at the beginning or end of the day.

Post your 2 favorite transition activities and list when you use them. Ideas for several different times of the day that transition ideas or activities are required would be Arrival time, free play – clean up time, group time – snack, creative art time – outdoor time, lunch – nap, free play – departure.
Example – I put out play dough at drop off time in the morning to help children get engaged in an activity first thing in the morning. (Think of some on your own or look online there are tons of ideas out there)
